About

The Airport Design Studio Ecosystem

The objective of The Airport Design Studio is to support multidisciplinary, national and international research and teaching in the field of airport and air transportation systems design, planning, and management. This objective is advanced by course work such as CE153 (The Airport Design Class) and CE98 and CE198 (Learn to Fly: Pilot Ground School). In addition, the work of the Studio is enhanced by non-course-related design projects, internships, and other interdisciplinary projects and research that bring together various university departments, airports, state and federal agencies, and industry.

Our research infrastructure and capabilities span from optimization models for Collaborative Gate Allocation, aviation infrastructure performance and investments, and decision making; commercial simulation software, such as SIMMOD, to the most comprehensive aviation databases created by the Federal Aviation Administration, such as Aviation System Performance Metrics (ASPM), Performance Data Analysis and Reporting System (PDARS) and Enhanced Traffic Management System (ETMS).
